brian flynn

Discover Egypt in a new way - through the vibrant paintings of Brian Flynn. After traveling extensively around the world, Brian has settled in Egypt where the deeply spiritual atmosphere of millennia of worship continues to pervade daily life. Living in this particularly sacred environment has had a profound effect on his paintings, which turn more towards the inner meanings behind the surface of these beautiful and captivating subjects.

The most recent works focus on the realm of the Unseen, the Duat for the ancient Egyptians. They attempt to reconcile the apparent contradictions of the Duat; it is invisible yet vivid, utter darkness pervades while the divine light illuminates it, immanent dangers lurk everywhere yet there is secure protection available. It is neither heaven nor hell, but rather a space between that may partake of either while remaining quite separate in itself. And one of the most essential requirements is to have an experienced and trusted guide. Inspired by the surviving sacred texts, they present a modern interpretation of timeless metaphysical concepts which, when understood correctly, are in fact practical advice for the spiritual wayfarer.

The paintings are divided into six categories which the blue titles above are linked to; click on one to enter that area. Each explores a different theme of his life and his unique personal vision of Egypt: the duat, mentioned above; gold, the most precious of metals used to elevate and sanctify subjects; the native people, past and present; still life – objects of our daily existence; archive of sold works; stage sets, which Brian designed and built for ten years, along with some murals dating mainly from his years in Italy.
